I hold many part time jobs. Like many performing artist do. One of them at the institution I recently graduated from. I am a student ambassador and basically meet, greet and answer all questions about NJCU! We had to fortunate opportunity to not only work but attend our biggest benefit Gala of the year! A Ferry boat ride from JERSEY CITY to ELIS ISLAND and this is what I wore.
I got this beautiful skirt from TARGET just a day or so before and paired this simple chic outfit with other low price items for a upscale look.
Withe weather being more and more intense. And i mean in a extremely cold way, I knew I had to stock up on sweaters; without breaking the bank. Growing up sweaters were my least favorite thing. So thick, so itchy, so heavy….especially when you have an even heavier coat over it. So it’s kinda funny the very place I stocked up was a place where 10 to 15 year old sweaters were the commodity. The Red, White and Blue! And not just any Red, White and Blue! But what I consider to be Thee Red, White and Blue! A thrift store that is organized and has its own plus size section. However, I found these comfy winners in the men’s section!!! Ladies don’t sleep on the men’s section! They have more over sized arm room and I think built to last. Since guys don’t like to shop as much as us! 😉 So I’m all stocked up and they were only $2.99!!! I got my Bill Cosby on!
i work at a great place called Art House, its a production company at the forefront of the artistic community right here in Jersey City NJ. Last night was there annual SnowBall! Their biggest fundraiser/party of the year. Tickets are $90, but instead of working it, us lovely workers get to volunteer, get dressed up and join in on the happenings. What’s happening? Open bar, all night, free food all night a live band and a DJ and the who’s who of the artistic and creative community here in Jersey City. The dance crowd is filled with poets, writers, musicians, singers, sculptors, painters, jewelry makers and businessmen!!! The mayor comes out and even a few yuppies! So us starving artist, politicians, and dreamers of all walks of life are jammin and mingling on one dance floor. In the Winter, while it’s snowing outside. Nothing is quite like it.
of course I went through a period of…what am I gonna wear, what am I gonna wear? but I promised myself to cool it on spending after the holidays and to put no heat on my hair or anything since I took my weave out. And I am proud of. Yself, I did. Y own nails, rocked my own natural hair and wore things from my closet that have just been laying around. The dress? The dress you say, well it was a gift from my sister from like last year, never worn it had tags on it. To tell you the truth I am extremely insecure about my arms it’s the most insecure part of. Y body, but I’ve been working out and feeling stronger so I went for it, and got tons of compliments. I was gonna go bare legged because I don’t own a stocking or tight in flesh tone, but I said no it’s cold, so I wore black tights with these silver character shoes that I really use for performing an auditioning but it went along with the flapper feel of the look. I mean the attire was black tie CREATIVE and creative it was. Good times and a great night. 2014, I like u!!!!
Being a person that is in love with theater and in “like” with Opera you may think my experience at the Met was going to be one lost in translation. I mean sure there were beautiful Parisian women there, rich aristocratic old money and young emerging artist dreaming and envisioning themselves right up there along with some of today’s top Opera stars. For the Met is one of the leading Opera House’s in the world. Certainly in all of the Americas.
I’m not going to lie, I first felt like I would be looked down upon. Shunned for expose my big girl thighs and wearing a dress that isn’t vintage or $1200 dollars. But I did it, tight-less. That’s right, no tights, bare legged. Of course I broke some necks of women they don’t eat for the name of fashion, or for being socially excepted. But I will say that I got a lot of “Yes Mama” looks from men that seemed to like all my junk, in all my trunks. I’ve been waiting to wear this dress that the forever trendy plus size fashion store Torrid calls MARBLE. However to me it always looked a little Baroque! Seeing that my destination was the Baroque Opera Norma, I figured it was very appropriate.
And at $38, I dare someone to argue with me about it. I finally got to wear my ever so classic nude low heeled pumps from DSW, pulled together by this wrap around belt from Baby Phat from years ago, I felt like how those rich people smelled, like a million bucks. I strutted my stuff through Upper East side having what I said to myself, ” my Carrie Bradshaw moment”.
Joined by my friend Ionna, this night couldn’t be more perfect. Then Anthony Marantino walked right pass me while the performers were done taking their bows. That’s right, Charlotte’s gay on Sex and the City! Mario! I knew then that I did indeed have my Sex and the City moment.
Hello WordPress. I was having so much trouble with blogger that I took my blog elsewhere. Please bare with me, as it will take sometime for me to get use to WordPress and have my blog set up the way I want. However, I still had a desire to share my love of plus size fashion and popular culture and just…document…My life. So here I am. I’m Samille! A fun loving outgoing, Singer/Actress from New Jersey. If I didn’t go to school for musical theater I probably would have went into styling or being a fashion editor, for its another passion. I’m addicted to Asos, Prince, Musicals, showers, London and off the radar performance art. I hope you get that from the blog. You can catch me on Twitter and Instagram @thickspot and I appreciate you for either sticking with me or checking me out.In my first post here on WordPress I have to talk about these Asos Curve peg pants. I purchased them in Asos’s recent sale and, well…they are perfect. Everyone that saw me in them said so also! They even have a slimming effect, which is always welcomed. A harem pant indeed, perfect for any weather and occasion. I wear them dressed down right now, but I’m sure I will eventually wear the, dressed up. Comfy, roomy, stylish, I’m in love! And wore them twice in a two dar period.
